Cruising the pirate waves

After a second glorious second visitation to defcon convention with @stickus, this time being #defcon32 "engage", being held at the "very" spacious las vegas convention center.

With this only being our second year going to defcon, it is still very over-whelming experience, but in the most friendly and inclusive geek culture that you can have.

There is a sentiment that defcon has changed throughout the years from the wild party atmosphere that it used to have. I would beg to differ, I would say that party spirit still runs wild, but has matured into something they can also take their kids to and exist in this "stricter" age of the world, by just hiding it from plain sight as always.... Also half the shit they used to do in vegas would have them flushed in the flood tunnels below the casino's now-adays. So kinda of another thing of necessity when you grow this big.

I digress, It is a whirlwind of technology of every sort with makers and diy-ers of every breed making different LoRa radios for meshtastic, to the (soldering village?, my brain is not being helped with insomnia, will fix name later) where you can pickup kits (or are given some from random give away's, challenges, or by making friends, .... or booze) and can build them here.

With the soldering section having over 300 different soldering stations and the stations being constantly full with people making flashing led circuits and radio kits of every kind.

It was truly a sight to behold as it wasn't just old folk, no it was a lot of kids making their first circuits with mom and or dad because hey time to learn something new.

It's on that thought of something new that I come here today. Time for #DC250 to Check in, Time for our community in the 250 area and beyond to have a little sliver of the internet for us to plan and come together in. For maker nights, nerdy movie nights, bicycle raves and other events on our little island.

This is just a start of a bulletin board, and so that we can start to get the word out there for our events up and events posted up in the island area. Everything from local ham radio operator events with the local WARA radio club, or for open studio nights at the local hacker space. If you have an event going on or in the Vancouver island area we want to know about it. Please contact us at events at dc250.com

Going to leave it at there to start and we are going to move forward in the next few days, because just as the red badges say. Don't F*ck it up.
Though what they did this year was more inspiring then they could have ever hoped.
